At the Mayor’s Office of Digital Strategy, we’re dedicated to improving engagement with residents and businesses by developing tools that will enhance government transparency, improve delivery of City services, and promote civic engagement.

We work closely with teams across the City to help develop forward-thinking policies and usage for digital tools to better serve the public and support the growth of New York City's tech ecosystem.


  Your Work

Our office is charged with creating standardized web experiences for everyone who interacts with NYC government online or through digital means. Our new Digital Service Design Director will oversee various wide reaching digital design initiatives, including the below.

  • Icon set, a central, standardized set of icons to be used on all NYC digital products. Created in collaboration with other offices, this project will require a keen eye for design, as well as project management skills.
  • Standardized design elements created in partnership with the CDO, will ensure NYC government digital products are accessible to all New Yorkers. The creation and continued implementation of these standards will follow human-centered design protocols.

  • Fostering relationships with our design community will be a critical component of the Digital Service Design Director’s role. Internally, our director will foster collaboration, project manage Citywide design priorities, and serve as a thought leader and advisor. Externally, our director will engage New York City’s incomparable design studios, nonprofits, philanthropies and design professional groups in strategic partnerships that support the use of digital service design in government.
  •   Join Our Team

    Our mighty team is growing to add more capacity for our current and future projects. We’re looking to add skillsets to improve the delivery of City services and are currently seeking a new team member with digital design experience. This person will be tasked with enabling all City agencies to utilize digital service design to create more effective public services and civic engagement strategies.

    The digital service design director will help City agencies adopt digital service design practices, track design projects throughout the City, guide agencies through the design process, and provide other interventions as necessary. They’ll serve as an internal thought leader and advisor on the use of digital service design in government, support the Chief Digital Officer in the creation of digital service design standards, collaborate with City agencies on the creation of digital service design training and development programs, and oversee strategic partnerships with NYC’s design community.

    In a nutshell, the Director of Digital Service Design will be the City’s design evangelist, both internally and externally.
